About the Editor

The Editor

As an avid reader of many self-published novels and countless children's books, my passion for editing arose from a desire to help authors grow and take their work to the next level. Editing is an essential step in which the author and I collaborate to develop a literary work of art as a team

As many authors have separate full-time jobs, I understand the editing budget may be limited. I will work with my authors to find a suitable fee that satisfies both of us. I dedicate many hours to my edits, including research and communication, and I know that my clients always appreciate the effort.

For children's books, I consider word count, content, and layout. I use my experience as a prekindergarten library teacher to guide my suggestions for the best reading experience. I talk through the story with the author so that I may understand what the author wants, and then a price is determined.

Novellas and novels depend on word count, the level of editing needed, the required research, and the timeframe for the finished product. First, I request that the novella/novel author send me a 500-1,000 word sample portion to be edited free of charge. This edit will show the author how I work, and it will show me the author's style and what level of editing is needed.

Proofreading is the last step an editor can do to help their client. Proofreading is done after the work has been professionally edited. Authors spend countless hours on their work, so it is advised that they have an editor do the editing and proofreading.

Ultimately, I aim for the author to be confident and proud of their work!

The Person

Originally from Louisiana, I traveled the world with my husband through the U. S. Army. After his service time, my family of four settled down in North Texas. My love of reading developed later in life with the magical Harry Potter series. This was a way for me to get through several deployments while the hubs was away. I read every moment I could spare. Through e-readers, I quickly found self-published books, and my life took this curve toward my passion for editing.

I returned to school to gain more knowledge on writing, editing, and our complicated English language and graduated with a B.A. in English with a concentration in writing. I push myself to continue learning by continuing my education and keeping up with the ever-changing English language through online programs such as the Poynter Institute, where I received an editing certificate.

I believe that books are the greatest form of knowledge and entertainment, and I want to help authors contribute their best to the world.
